“The Camera - Aperture and Iris”

 DSLR:  Aperture

What is aperture?

Aperture is a hole in the lens that controls how much light gets into your camera. It's one important element of the exposure triangle, along with ISO and shutter speed. Aperture also affects your depth of field, which is defined by the level of clarity or blurriness of certain elements within a photo.

  • How does it affect exposure?

it alters the overall amount of light that reaches your camera sensor. The brightness alters depending on the aperture

  • How does it affect depth of field?

The wider the aperture, the less depth of field you capture. The smaller the aperture, the deeper the depth of field.

  • How do you pick the right aperture for your scene?

The larger the number, the smaller the aperture. If you're shooting in a low light environment, it's wise to shoot with a wide aperture to ensure we get a good exposure.

What is Iris?

The iris is the adjustable opening that can restrict the amount of light that enters the camera

  • How does it affect exposure?

A smaller aperture (or higher f-stop) is going to let in less light, while a larger aperture (a lower f-stop) is going to let much more light in.
